Power Re-Sign Mike Washington and Bryan Williams
The Pittsburgh Power re-signed Mike Washington, who led the team in catches, receiving yards and touchdowns in 2012. “Retaining Washington was a high priority for us this off-season,” said team owner and GM Matt Shaner. “His play on the field speaks for itself. But beyond that, he is a local player who found his way to us through the open tryouts and has made the most of that opportunity.” Coach Chris Siegfried also praised Washington adding, ”He’ll only get better as he plays this game more. He has game changing talent and great drive to succeed.”
Mike Washington starred at Aliquippa High School before playing for the University of Hawaii. He started at wide receiver in Hawaii, helping the Warriors go undefeated and win the WAC championship in 2007 and recorded 62 receptions, 789 yards receiving and 6 TDs in 2008. Mike worked out with several NFL teams before signing with the Power following open tryouts in 2010.
Bryan Williams, a 6’1”, 210 pound defensive back out of the University of Akron, debuted with the Power late in the 2011 season and impressed with his athleticism and versatility. “Bryan can shut down wide receivers and brings us an added dimension to our special teams and offense,” remarked Coach Siegfried. “Having him for a full season will be a great asset to us”.
Bryan Williams played college football for the University of Akron, where he was the all-time team leader in kickoff return average, and left as the MAC conference all-time leader, averaging over 30 yards a return for his career. Williams signed a three-year contract with the Browns after the 2009 NFL Draft.
