Power Falls to Gladiators

Promising First Quarter Lead Dissolves Amidst Bad Bounces and Turnovers

(Pittsburgh, April 28, 2012)

After a quick score on offense was followed up by an interception and short TD run by PJ Berry, the Power was up two scores to start the game. But an unlucky bounce on a kickoff and interception stalled the Power momentum in what resulted in a 58-43 loss to the Cleveland Gladiators. Pittsburgh’s loss, in front of 6,034 at the CONSOL Energy Center snapped a two game Gladiator slide – lifting them to 4-3 while the Power falls to 2-5.

Bryan Randall became the fourth starting quarterback for the Power this season and performed admirably well, finishing finished 28-of-44 for 309 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions.  But the early momentum and a 21-7 lead dissolved as a kickoff hit the upright and the long bounce fell in Cleveland hands, starting a spiral of misfortune for the Power.   An interception and a drive stunted by a disputed incomplete call on a long pass to Mike Washington contributed to what was 35 unanswered points by Cleveland.

After being intercepted on his first drive, Cleveland quarterback John Dutton settled down to record 6 touchdowns on the night.  The interception, was Lefore’s 6th on the season, setting a Power record, was Dutton’s lone blemish on his evening.

The Power started making a push late in the third quarter as Randall threw two touchdowns, one to Randy Hymes, the other to Washington.   However, they could get no closer than 11 points back.  Washington led the Power with 13 receptions and set a new standard for most catches by a Power player in a single game.

The Power are home at the CONSOL Energy Center nest weekend, celebrating Superhero Night on May 5th verses the Georgia Force at 8:00 PM EDT.  Fans are encouraged to dress as their favorite superhero, and the first 5,000 fans will receive a first edition Avengers comic book.
